Virat Kohli playfully mocked Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s throwing skills before getting the better of Liam Livingstone during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Unbox 2025 event on Monday. A video of the moment quickly went viral on social media.
During the event, Kohli and his RCB teammates tossed sponge balls into the stands after their first official training session. For passionate RCB fans, these balls serve as cherished souvenirs from their beloved IPL team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, making a return to RCB after 14 years, attempted a throw with his non-dominant left hand, but it fell short. Kohli, noticing this, couldn’t help but poke fun at Bhuvneshwar before bursting into laughter. He then took his turn, effortlessly sending a few balls into the crowd.
Moments later, Liam Livingstone joined in, trying his hand at the challenge. Kohli, walking beside the English all-rounder, launched a throw that traveled farther than Livingstone’s. With a triumphant gesture, the former RCB captain pointed at his teammate, signaling his ‘victory’ in their friendly duel.
Virat Kohli Backs New RCB Captain Rajat Patidar
Later in the evening, Kohli voiced his support for newly appointed RCB captain Rajat Patidar, expressing confidence in his leadership. Having been with RCB since the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and leading the team for over a decade, Kohli remains the face of the franchise.
Patidar takes over from Faf du Plessis, who has moved to Delhi Capitals this season. Addressing the fans, Kohli said, “This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He has everything needed to succeed.”
Kohli also shared his optimism about RCB’s chances this season. “It feels amazing to be back. The excitement is just like every other season. I’ve been here for 18 years and absolutely love RCB. We have an incredible squad with a lot of talent. Personally, I’m very excited about this season,” he added.
Standing beside Kohli, Patidar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “Legends like Virat bhai, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle have played for RCB. I grew up watching them and have always loved this franchise. Leading one of the biggest T20 teams is a huge honor for me,” said the new skipper.
